DJI Zenmuse H30 Series: Inspection Just Got Smoother and Smarter

The DJI Zenmuse H30 series just got better, featuring the DJI Zenmuse H30 and DJI Zenmuse H30T, the latest innovation in drone camera technology. As the successor to the H20 lineup, the H30 series advances the capabilities of its predecessors by combining the excellence of night vision into both the H30 and H30T. The H30 series also brings forth a range of improvements to every camera available, making it a worthy successor for people serious about their work. It excels in asset inspection, such as power lines, and brings unmatched performance in thermal applications like public safety and animal monitoring.

Applications

The new Zenmuse H30 Series is excellent for a wide variety of applications, from inspection to thermal imaging.

In the public safety sector, H30 Series payloads are being used to respond quickly to threats, gathering immediate information about the situation and helping to create plans for minimising damage and danger.

Asset inspection is a great use case for the H30 series. It provides an eye-in-the-sky approach, reducing the dangers to workers and giving exceptional visuals from any distance due to its 400x digital zoom camera. It excels in a variety of lighting conditions, with night vision sensors and NIR auxiliary light to invisibly illuminate dark places. For example, pipeline inspection no longer requires boots on the ground to follow along. A drone equipped with the H30 or H30T can observe the pipeline, ensuring it’s structurally sound.

Visual Cameras

The H30 series supports a range of visible light capabilities, from 400x zoom, panorama photos, and video pre-recording to more advanced features.

The main camera is a 1/1.8-inch CMOS 40MP Zoom camera. It supports 4K and 1080p photos and video, while now also supporting 1080p night vision photos and videos. This, combined with the powerful 34x optical zoom and 400x digital zoom, allows for significant range and unparalleled quality. For perspective, below is a comparison between the H20T and H30T at 700 metres away.

Paired with a Laser Range Finder, distances can easily be calculated with increased accuracy up to 3000 metres away. Distances can be tracked through the report and pinpointed on the map to get an understanding of scale in the environment.

Can’t capture the entire scene with the zoom camera? That is where the 1/1.3-inch 48MP wide-angle sensor comes in. With an 82.1° FOV, it captures more area in a single image in crisp 4K resolution.

Night Vision Camera

Night Vision is integrated into both the H30 and H30T, offering a Night Scene mode to improve imaging performance in low-light conditions. New to the H30 series is full-colour night mode, which helps in understanding the scene through colours. The standard black-and-white mode is still present and offers greater clarity through its use of IR light. Night mode also now uses the Laser Range Finder for laser-assisted focusing, allowing the camera to focus faster and more accurately using the distance provided by the laser.

NIR Auxiliary Light

A brand new Near-Infrared (NIR) Spotlight has been added to the H30 series. This uses non-visible light to create an ‘invisible spotlight’ which helps boost the performance of the night vision. While in black-and-white night vision mode, the NIR spotlight can be turned on, which adds ‘light’ to the scene for the camera to pick up. The spotlight’s range is about 100 metres, providing an 8-metre diameter.

Footage shows full-color night mode, black and white night mode and use of the NIR Auxiliary Spotlight.

Thermal Camera (H30T)

The thermal camera is exclusive to the DJI Zenmuse H30T and has seen significant improvement. The biggest enhancement is the resolution, which has seen a 4x improvement from 640×512 (H20T) to 1280×1024, along with an extended 32x maximum zoom. This allows for higher levels of thermal detail at further distances.

The temperature range has also expanded and utilises an Infrared Density Filter along with high and low gain modes to achieve a range from -20 °C all the way to 1600 °C.

Like other DJI products, the benefit of both visual and thermal imaging is the side-by-side comparison. With the H30T’s greater zooming capabilities, side-by-side zooming has never been so clear.

The H30T, paired with the DJI Thermal Analysis Tool 3.0, offers temperature analysis beyond basic onsite inspection with the drone. Data can be saved, analysed, and exported, ready for presentation or further inspection.

Smart Features

DJI is always providing new software features to help boost productivity along the whole production pipeline. For the H30 series, new features such as video foreground stabilisation, smart track, and AI spot check are all included.

Smart Capture

Through the power of image optimisation, DJI now offers Smart Capture. It automatically assesses the image and improves its lighting, dynamic range, and contrast for a more comprehensive final image.

Video Pre-recording

Never miss an important detail. With video pre-recording turned on, the drone will always have 30 seconds of footage stored before you start the video. This way, when a recording starts, all the details from 30 seconds beforehand are saved for a comprehensive video.

Multi-Saving

When the H30 has such a variety of cameras, sometimes it can be hard to know which camera you should be recording from. Multi-saving now allows for photos and videos to be saved from each camera simultaneously, meaning you never miss a detail outside what was seen on the screen.

Video Foreground Stabilisation

Allows the H30 to stabilise onto foreground objects, making inspections clearer and less jittery from background movements.

Electronic Dehazing

In hazy and humid environments, electronic dehazing can be activated to improve the clarity of images, which is especially useful for long zoom shots in the distance.

Smart Track

Select an object and follow it around with Smart Track. It can identify objects and allow the camera to follow the target, keeping it within the centre of the image.

DJI Zenmuse H20 Series vs. H30 Series: A Comparison of Features and Performance

The DJI Zenmuse H30 Series directly supersedes the H20 Series, which featured the H20, H20T (Thermal), and H20N (Night Vision).

Overall, the product line has been simplified, combining the capabilities of the H20N into the H30 and H30T. These capabilities have been improved as well due to the enhanced camera sensors and the addition of the NIR Auxiliary Light.
